ABLE RESPONDS TO ENVIRONMENT AGENCY STATEMENT Following the issuing today (October 31st) by the Environment Agency of a News Release relating to contract for the recycling of redundant American vessels by Able UK, the company’s Managing Director, Peter Stephenson, issued the following statement: “I can confirm that late yesterday we met with the Environment Agency who indicated to us that they had a problem relating to the licences issued in connection with our contract with the United States Marine Administration. “As a result of the meeting the Environment Agency undertook to write to us to set out their position and indicated to us that we would be unlikely to receive that material until early next week. “It is therefore a little surprising that the Agency has apparently chosen to issue a News Release this morning before we have even received their written position, let alone had a chance to study its contents. It therefore makes it very difficult for us to comment in detail on the matter. “However, we do remain satisfied that we have relevant planning permissions in place for the recycling of the vessels and the creation of dry dock facilities. We have applied for approvals from the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs in relation to work on the dry dock facilities, covering matters such as dredging. Given that similar approvals have been given in the past, we are confident that these will be in place by mid-November. “When we do receive the written comments of the Environment Agency we will obviously give them careful consideration.” << back |
