Toxic Wastes & Hazardous Materials/Contaminated Land

ABLE's experience in major earthworks and hazardous wastes, asbestos and toxic wastes, has given the Company the capability to execute major reclamation projects and the cleaning of industrial land etc. This involves the removal and encapsulation of vast quantities of soils contaminated with hydrocarbons, heavy metals, etc. One of the largest and complex projects, undertaken was the complete clean-up of an existing gas works site, involving the excavation and removal of 250,000 cubic metres of contaminated ground and its replacement with clean material. The 7 hectares site is now occupied by over 220 houses.

Other significant contaminated land operations:-

Hartlepool Borough Council 260,000 tonnes
CEGB Billingham 420,000 tonnes
CEGB Carlisle 100,000 tonnes
Tar Works - Newcastle Upon Tyne 100,000 tonnes hazardous chemicals
and; -
20,000 tonnes heavy oils, tars and pitch

ABLE owns and operates its own special waste landfill site in the Teesside area - Seaton Meadows - which enables the Company to provide a complete service on reclamation schemes in that area.
