LEGAL SERVICES MANAGER

ABLE Group is a privately owned ambitious and successful organisation that operates across a variety of challenging industrial and business sectors.

Owning and operating a number of strategic sites undertaking site reclamation and associated development.  Our landholding of over 2,428 hectares (6,000 acres) consists of five river frontage sites on the River Tees and two on the Humber Estuary where we provide project ports and logistics services.

ABLE is a multi-functional business providing solutions for some of the world’s largest organisations.  This has allowed ABLE to establish the enviable position of ‘market leader’ in a number of sectors including decommissioning and a provider of multi-user port facilities.

ABLE is receiving the third Shell Brent platform to their Able Seaton Port (ASP) in Hartlepool followed by platforms from Nova Scotia, Canada.  

ABLE recently completed the upgrading of the Able Seaton Port facility and will shortly be commencing on the next phase of upgrading the Able Humber Port facility for the manufacture and installation of offshore wind turbines.

ABLE are now looking for a high calibre Qualified Legal Services Manager to join our team. 

The Legal Services Manager will not only be an exceptional lawyer but will also be highly commercially aware and provide legal advice and support for Senior Management to create value by making key tactical and strategic decisions.

The Successful Candidate

The Legal Services Manager will be responsible for drafting, reviewing and negotiating various real estate and commercial contracts and agreements.  Managing and mitigating legal risks by designing and implementing company policies and procedures.  Ensuring compliance with all laws and regulations that apply to the business. You’ll have a recognised professional legal qualification and be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience gained preferably in property law areas: real estate, including leases (commercial), easements, restrictive covenants, registered commons and the acquisition of Freehold or Leasehold property etc.  It will also be helpful if you have some knowledge in commercial contracting law.  You will be able to work self-sufficiently in producing transactional documents, in particular: agreement to lease, leases, easements and licences etc and advising on property and commercial issues.

Essential Requirements

  • Must have a minimum of 8 years of post-qualification experience gained in large law firm and/or in-house with major firm .
  • Working with tight deadlines and responding to Clients in a timely manner.
  • Experienced and good knowledge of working with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong negotiating skills for legal, financial and commercial issues.
  • Be an exceptional lawyer but also be highly commercially aware and provide legal advice and support to help Senior Management to create value by making key tactical and strategic decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Reporting directly to the Group Executive Chairman and the Chief Operating Officer, you will be responsible for drafting, reviewing and negotiating various commercial contracts and agreements
  • Ensure that robust processes are in place throughout the business for the review and negotiation of property contracts/leases and consideration of commercial and legal issues; confidence to make suggestions for continuous improvement of processes.
  • Ensuring that the governance of the organisation is of the highest quality and assist with the Company Secretary functions. 

Additional Information 

  • The position will be based at the head office in Billingham and command a competitive package, based on the candidate’s experience.
  • Standard working hours: 08:00 – 17:00 hrs, Monday to Friday.
