Planning clearance welcome

 News that the Communities and Local Government Secretary has decided not to intervene in plans for a multi-million pound logistics park on the South Bank of the Humber has been warmly welcomed by the company behind the project, ABLE UK.

Last October North Lincolnshire Council’s Planning Committee backed the proposals for the £100million development but because of the significance of the project—the area’s biggest-ever planning application—it had to go to the Secretary of State Eric Pickles to decide whether or not he wished to intervene.

Now Mr Pickles’ department has told the Council that the Minister believes that the decision on the application should remain with the Council and ABLE UK’s Group Development Director Neil Etheringon believes there will be an early—and positive—decision.

He explained “Now that the Government has referred the matter back to the authority we are very hopeful that formal approval will be given in the near future and that we can begin work on the project later this year.”

“Included in the plans are proposals for the creation of transport depots, warehousing and external storage areas, offices, a business park and motel.”

“We have already invested £50million in the existing Humber Portss Facility for vehicle import, storage and distribution and the logistics park will be a £100million development which, when completed, will create in the region of 5,000 jobs.”

“In addition, of course, we are moving ahead with our £400million plans for developing what would be the UK’s leading Marine Energy Park, offering purpose-built facilities for the construction and installation of wind turbines.”

“The potential for Humber Ports is enormous—covering an area of almost 2,000 acres and with a river frontage of over two and half miles, it is the largest site available for port-related developments in Europe.”
