BP North West Hutton Decommissioning

In 2008, ABLE was selected by BP to recycle the iconic North West Hutton oil rig from the North Sea in a decommissioning project. The largest decommissioning project undertaken in the North Sea and ABLE is proud to have been chosen to undertaken such a project.

Sections of the platform were delivered to ASP and loaded over the quays. A variety of load in and transportation techniques were specifically designed and executed to facilitate the manoeuvre of BP North West Hutton’s large modular sections.

The Hereema H627 barge (load capacity 52,481 tonne) delivered the largest sections to ASP where a 2,500 tonne ringer crane was also in position.
