About Able
Meet the Able Leadership Team
The ABLE Mission
To develop and mobilise Britain’s most strategically important land and port assets to power the nation’s clean-energy future enabling low-carbon manufacturing, offshore wind deployment, and circular-economy excellence that delivers long-term value for communities, industry, and the environment.
ABLE is a privately owned, ambitious and successful organisation. From its origins in 1966, the Company is founded on the core commitments of providing a wholly reliable service, respecting the natural environment and being flexible in adapting to the ever changing needs of our clients.
From being a leading and innovative specialist in complex demolition processes, the Company has developed into a major player across a number of sectors including installation yards for offshore wind turbines, recycling redundant offshore marine structures and ships, land reclamation and property & port development, specialising in renewables.
ABLE operates a number of strategic sites, predominantly across the North of England, undertaking full site reclamation and associated property development. Our landholding consists of over 10,000 acres and includes a number of river frontage sites on the River Tees and the Humber Estuary where we provide project ports and logistics services.
Over the years the ABLE Group has been involved with many nationally significant projects and this is something about which we are very proud. Our enthusiasm to undertake ground-breaking projects is continuing with the development of the Able Humber Port (AHP) and Able Energy Park (AEP) facilities on the South Bank of the River Humber.
Our customers appreciate our strong values of hard work, common sense and discipline, particularly in relation to maintaining a proud health and safety and environmental record. This, combined with a true passion for innovation and excellent project management capabilities, allows us to maintain our social performance commitment of maximising environmental efficiencies to obtain full economic potential. Our motto is “ABLE CAN DO” and we are proud to say that since we started trading in 1966 we have always delivered.
Our Strategic Goals

Awards
The OEUK Awards are a premier annual event hosted by Offshore Energies UK (OEUK), the leading trade association for the UK offshore energy industry. These awards celebrate innovation and talent across the sector by recognising standout individuals and companies driving technological progress and decarbonisation. They honour contributions to the energy transition and security, highlight best practices in safety and environmental and social responsibility, and reward organisations demonstrating strong corporate citizenship and community impact, driving the UK’s energy transition and securing the nation's energy supply.
OEUK Outstanding Contribution to the Circular Economy
This award recognises ABLE’s pioneering approach to industrial regeneration and circular economy principles. This award celebrates how we transform obsolete offshore assets into low-carbon opportunities, driving sustainability across the energy sector.
Circular by Design
Over 250,000 tonnes of offshore infrastructure recycled to date, with 98.5% material recovery on complex scopes. Steel from decommissioned platforms is repurposed into offshore wind infrastructure, supporting the UK’s renewable energy ambitions.Carbon-Neutral Operations
Able Seaton Port operates as a carbon-neutral facility, with a roadmap to achieve carbon-negative status by 2050. Our integrated approach combines recycling, renewable energy generation, and hydrogen development.Innovation in Material Management
AI-driven dismantling logistics and material tracing ensure maximum recovery and traceability, reducing waste and emissions while creating new supply chain efficiencies.Social Value and Skills Investment
Over £6.3 million invested in skills development and local employment, ensuring that circular economy principles deliver benefits for communities as well as industry.
This award reinforces ABLE’s position as a leader in sustainable industrial transformation. We don’t just dismantle obsolete assets—we regenerate them into opportunities that power the energy transition.
Early Career Professional of the Year – Luke Donnelly
This accolade celebrates the exceptional talent shaping the future of decommissioning. At just 26 years old, Luke Donnelly has demonstrated technical leadership and innovation on one of the UK’s most complex projects—the dismantling of the Brent Charlie topside (31,000 tonnes).
Safety and Performance Excellence
Delivered 98.5% recycling rate and zero lost-time incidents, setting new benchmarks for safe, sustainable dismantling.Technical Innovation
Introduced cold-cutting techniques to reduce high-risk work at height and integrated dynamic RAMS for real-time safety control—innovations that have improved efficiency and reduced hazards.Leadership Under Pressure
Luke’s ability to lead multidisciplinary teams through complex engineering challenges has earned him recognition as a rising star in the energy sector.Future-Focused Mindset
His work exemplifies ABLE’s commitment to nurturing talent and driving innovation for a cleaner, safer energy future.
Luke’s achievement is not just a personal milestone—it reflects ABLE’s culture of empowering people to lead the energy transition.
Excellence in Decommissioning Award (Supply Chain)
ABLE is honoured to accept the Excellence in Decommissioning Award (Supply Chain) award. This recognition celebrates our commitment to setting new benchmarks for safe, sustainable dismantling across the UK Continental Shelf. Our award-winning submission highlighted:
Safety, Environmental & Cost Performance
Delivered Shell’s Brent Decommissioning Project with an industry-leading 98.5% recycling rate across 95,000 tonnes of topsides, zero cost overruns, and minimal environmental impact.Technical & Commercial Innovation
Constructed Quay 6, Europe’s heaviest-duty quay (45t/m²), enabling reception of 60,000-tonne structures. Pioneered “load-in by skidding” for the 31,000-tonne Brent Charlie topside—a global first.Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing
Partnered with Shell and Allseas to co-design solutions, share lessons, and raise industry standards.Energy Transition Leadership
Operating as a carbon-neutral organisation, Able Seaton Port doubles as a recycling hub and wind turbine marshalling yard, with investments in renewable energy, hydrogen production, and circular economy principles.
The Decom Mission Awards are an annual, prestigious event in the energy industry, that recognises and celebrates excellence, innovation, and safety in decommissioning. Established to highlight achievements across the global decommissioning sector, these awards are presented during Decom Week.
