ABLE Launches ESG Performance Report: A Landmark in Sustainability and Governance
ABLE has officially published its Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) Performance Report, marking a significant milestone in the company’s journey toward transparency, sustainability, and responsible business leadership.
This comprehensive report, aligned with Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards, sets a new benchmark for ABLE’s operations across its 11,500+-acre landholding and strategic port facilities on the Teesside and Humber. It reflects ABLE’s commitment to powering Britain’s clean-energy future while delivering measurable social and economic value.
Key Highlights from the ESG Performance Report
1. Carbon Neutrality Achieved and Verified
Able Group has achieved its Carbon Neutral status, verified by Carbon Footprint Ltd under ISO 14064-3 standards.
Total emissions: 2,659.09 tCO₂e (Scopes 1, 2 & 3)
Offset: 2,660 tonnes CO₂e through a Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) solar project
Roadmap to Carbon Negative: Launched in Q1 2025, targeting a 50% emissions reduction by 2030 and net-negative by 2050.
2. Circular Economy Leadership
At Able Seaton Port, 97%+ of materials from dismantled offshore oil and gas platforms were recycled or reused in 2024—an industry-leading achievement that underscores Able’s commitment to resource efficiency and landfill avoidance.
3. Social Value Impact
ABLE delivered £6.33 million in social value during 2024, a 17.5% increase year-on-year, driven by:
Local employment and apprenticeships
Donations to community organisations including Hartlepool and Billingham Foodbanks
£8,000 worth of safety equipment donated to the International Fire Training Centre
Significant local supply chain spend: £1.4 million with SMEs within 15 miles of operations
4. Health & Safety Excellence
Across 195,000 working hours, Able recorded zero RIDDOR incidents, reinforcing our ISO 45001-certified safety culture.
5. Governance & Future Outlook
Able has established a formal ESG Steering Committee, reporting directly to the Group CEO, to embed sustainability into every strategic decision. Future initiatives include:
Launch of Able Group Environmental Utility (AGEU) for biodiversity net gain and carbon removal projects
Responsible Supply Chain Standard with ESG clauses in all contracts
Annual GRI-aligned ESG disclosure and a dedicated ESG Hub on Able’s website for real-time transparency.
