Peter Stephenson Shortlisted for “Made It Happen Champion” Award at the Global Offshore Wind Awards
Peter Stephenson
Founder and Executive Chairman of the Able Group
ABLE’s Executive Chairman, Peter Stephenson, has been shortlisted for the Made It Happen Champion award at the RenewableUK Global Offshore Wind Awards 2025 - an honour that recognises individuals who have played a pivotal role in advancing the UK’s clean energy revolution.
The award celebrates senior leaders who bring clarity to complex challenges, drive strategic progress, and deliver tangible results across the offshore wind sector. The event, held on the 14th October 2025 shines a spotlight on the achievements driving the offshore wind sector forward - recognising the people, projects, and priorities shaping the future of clean energy.
Peter’s nomination reflects a lifetime of transformative infrastructure delivery. As the founder of Able UK, he has not only pioneered marine recycling but also created the backbone of the UK’s offshore wind deployment capabilities. His vision led to the development of Able Seaton Port (ASP) - now the UK’s most experienced offshore wind marshalling yard - and the forthcoming Able Humber Port (AHP), which will be the country’s first co-located manufacturing and installation hub.
Driving Tangible Impact
Under Peter’s leadership, ASP has supported over 10 GW of offshore wind capacity, handling components for major projects including Hornsea One, Triton Knoll, Seagreen, Dogger Bank, and Hornsea 3. His foresight in developing heavy-duty quays, deepwater berths, and SPMT-compatible yards enabled ASP to meet the evolving demands of next-generation wind turbine logistics - well ahead of industry standards.
Now, Peter’s boldest initiative - AHP - is set to unlock 50 GW of UK offshore wind installations and support an additional 50 GW for export. With 868 acres of developable land, four deepwater installation yards, and hydrogen-ready infrastructure, AHP is designed to eliminate redundant logistics and save the UK an estimated £2 billion over 25 years.
Proven Leadership with Sector-Wide Thinking
Peter’s influence extends beyond Able UK. He has championed Freeport and carbon-neutral status for both ASP and AHP, advocated for government-backed investment mechanisms, and led public-private partnerships to address grid and energy security challenges. His strategic interventions have consistently anticipated sector bottlenecks - such as installation yard capacity - and delivered solutions before they became constraints.
Strategic Vision and Execution
Over two decades, Peter has redeveloped more than 4,500 acres of estuarial land for renewable infrastructure and delivered over 80 offshore decommissioning projects, advancing the circular economy and green steel reuse. His ports are futureproofed for hydrogen, digital logistics, and next-gen turbine components - positioned adjacent to 82% of the UK’s North Sea wind capacity.
Collaborative, Delivery-Focused Leadership
Peter’s leadership style is defined by trust-based collaboration and delivery excellence. He has built enduring relationships with OEMs like Ørsted, GE, RWE, and Siemens, developers including Equinor and Shell, and public stakeholders such as National Grid and The Crown Estate. His modular, tenant-first approach at ASP offers tailored solutions for contractors and developers, while his internal team - many of whom have worked with him for decades - reflect his commitment to long-term success.
A True “Made It Happen” Leader
Peter Stephenson is more than a trusted leader - he is one of the architects of the UK’s offshore wind infrastructure. Where others saw barriers, Peter built solutions. His ports have de-risked, de-carbonised, and industrialised the UK’s clean energy future, turning government ambition into operational reality.
Congratulations to Peter on this well-earned recognition. His work continues to shape the future of offshore wind - and the UK’s path to net zero.
